WELCOME

Welcome to the 44th College Television Awards!
Tonight’s nominees join our family of student television creators who have launched successful careers as alumni of Television Academy Foundation programs. Prior College Television Award winners now work across the industry as writers, executives, showrunners and more, at networks, studios and streamers, including Netflix, Max, ESPN, CNN, NBCUniversal, Disney/ABC, Paramount and more.
This year, we received 232 submissions from 50 colleges and universities throughout the country. The 22 nominated pieces were created by talented students ready to entertain, inspire, challenge and move us. They have tackled important topics we need to digest, including stories about Alzheimer’s disease, body positivity, school shootings and public education. It has been our great pleasure to work with 100 nominated students throughout this weekend to connect them to industry leaders and provide time to network, learn and share their work.
Through the College Television Awards, we are pleased to present some of the nation’s most talented emerging storytellers and bring them into our network of Foundation alumni who are shaping the future of the industry. We offer our thanks to the donors, sponsors, board, staff, judges and all others who make this event possible. If you are new to the Foundation or the College Television Awards, it’s easy to support our work as a volunteer or to donate online to further our transformative education programs.
To our students: We encourage you to continue to share your stories and develop your voices with courage and inspiration. You will continue to blaze new trails in the industry, and you can count on us to support you as your careers grow and your stars shine. We welcome you to the Foundation family and look forward to seeing what you’ll do next.
Enjoy the evening!

TELEVISION ACADEMY FOUNDATION
ABOUT THE TELEVISION ACADEMY FOUNDATION

Yellowjackets costars Liv Hewson and Courtney Eaton flank Zhongyu Wang, Jacqueline Elyse Rosenthal, Marian Cook and Josh Powell, of University of Southern California, winners of the Drama Series award for Backlog at the 43rd College Television Awards
Established in 1959 as the affiliated nonprofit of the Television Academy, the Television Academy Foundation is dedicated to preserving the legacy of television while educating and inspiring those who will shape its future. Through renowned educational and outreach programs, the Foundation seeks to widen the circle of voices our industry represents and create more opportunities for television to reflect all of society.
As the television landscape evolves through innovative storytelling, advances in technology and new business models, it becomes increasingly vital to spotlight the best and brightest of the next generation of television executives and content creators. The Television Academy Foundation provides resources and programs focused on helping talented students from diverse backgrounds find their voices, refine their skills and forge rewarding careers in the industry.
Every year, the College Television Awards recognize the nation’s most outstanding student content creators, with hundreds of submissions each year from students across the country. The projects selected reflect industry standards of quality, creativity and originality. Nominees and winners confront difficult topics, tell unexpected and remarkable stories and break down racial, social and cultural barriers.
Each summer, the Foundation’s nationally recognized Internship Program provides paid, hands-on opportunities for more than 50 college students in more than 25 disciplines. Our interns experience an immersive program with the industry’s top talent in fields such as development, scriptwriting, picture editing, production and animation.
Interns from colleges and universities nationwide bring diverse backgrounds and fresh perspectives to Los Angeles in the summer, enriching the industry. Through our program, they gain first-hand experience in various fields, connect with a vast and dynamic professional network and, in some cases, receive job offers from their hosting companies. While the internship program offers full-time positions in the summer, it continues year-round with part-time, paid opportunities available during the fall and spring specifically for students in the Greater Los Angeles Area and Semester in L.A. programs.
This year, the Foundation relaunches its virtual student programs, Access: Behind the Screens and redefines professional development for college students and early-career individuals. This virtual event series features multiple sessions throughout the year, each focusing on different facets of the entertainment industry. Participants will gain behind-the-scenes insights from Emmy winners, creative talent and business executives, with live Q&A opportunities to foster meaningful connections. The program’s flexible format ensures minimal conflict with class schedules, offering tailored learning experiences that inspire and empower the next generation of entertainment professionals.
To broaden its mission to educate and inspire, the Foundation established The Power of TV in 2017 as a series of public panels throughout the year designed to explore and celebrate the power of television to create positive social change. To date, programs have included discussions focused on the inclusion of disabled and transgender people in storytelling, television’s portrayal of families and caregiving, reproductive rights and climate narratives, among others.
For more than 25 years, the Foundation has captured and shared television history, one story at a time, through The Interviews: An Oral History of Television, formerly known as the Archive of American Television. Hundreds of interviews with media trailblazers and changemakers have been cataloged and curated on our award-winning website and provide a customized digital experience like no other for fans, media professionals and students of television. With more than 3,000 hours of footage, The Interviews showcase the personal, inspirational, surprising and fascinating stories of television, which are resourced and enjoyed by students, academics, journalists and television enthusiasts worldwide. In 2022, the National Endowment for the Humanities recognized The Interviews as part of its “A More Perfect Union” initiative, honoring significant projects in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It was the Foundation’s first federal grant and a true honor.
Another initiative spanning a quarter-century is the annual Media Educators Conference, which helps to expand and improve nationwide media studies curricula by training media faculty in current industry best practices. The program brings together educators from across the country to Los Angeles and provides the tools and information to connect their classrooms with the television industry and better serve their students. Participants learn first-hand about career trends, best practices and future possibilities from top television professionals who lead deep dives into such topics as demystifying unions and guilds, techniques and trends in directing for television, the future of technology and AI in the industry and many more.
Finally, the Foundation’s Alumni Network fosters lifelong professional connections within the television industry. Alumni from all Foundation programs remain engaged through an annual calendar of events that grows in response to their needs. Our distinguished alumni base now boasts 40 Emmy nominees, with a collective 114 nominations and 20 wins.
Through its core programming and new initiatives, the Television Academy Foundation offers opportunities for young leaders to prepare for both television’s future and their own, while assuring that the history of television continues to inform and inspire viewers around the world.
A Note from Our President and CEO, Maury McIntyre

The Television Academy Foundation’s goal is to pave the way and provide access for a rising generation of storytellers whose vision and voices will shape the future of television. Tonight’s ceremony caps a three-day experience during which you’ve had a chance to share your work, meet with influential industry professionals, network and learn. You are joining the industry at a critical time of change, reinvention and innovation. You and the television careers you are embarking upon will be part of these historic changes.
Now, we’re going to ask something of you. As College Television Awards nominees, you are beginning a lifelong association with the Television Academy Foundation. We hope that you not only stay in touch, but that you will help future Foundation program participants by staying engaged, coming back to share your experiences and providing us feedback to help make next year’s College Television Awards experience even more impactful.

Since 1979, the College Television Awards have recognized excellence in student-produced television content. The Awards have grown from two categories in 1979 into a competition with submissions from over 100 schools nationwide in nine different categories. We are proud to note that College Television Awards alumni have also been nominated and won Emmys and Student Oscars, as well as an array of other distinguished awards within the entertainment industry.
Since 2019, our nominees have also enjoyed the exclusive opportunity to network and connect with industry executives over three days of professional development activities. These include networking with Foundation alumni and Television Academy governors, customized field trips and panel discussions and skill-building workshops with industry leaders.
Each year the Foundation encourages students to create work that sheds light on issues affecting people around the globe. The Seymour Bricker Humanitarian Award recognizes a nominated production that spotlights an issue of humanitarian importance, while the Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Scholarship recognizes work that advances issues related to people with disabilities.
